Welcome to the new Department of Aboriginal Education website!
You will now find the Native Teacher Education Program (NTEP) and the Native Language Instructors' Program (NLIP) information listed under the Department of Aboriginal Education on this site and in the Lakehead University Calendar. We are particularly pleased to present to you our latest initiative the Honours B.Ed. (Aboriginal), a four-year, stand-alone program. This program is designed with an emphasis on issues related to Aboriginal Education and working with all children, but especially with Aboriginal children. Graduates from this program will receive full teacher certification at the primary/junior division.
Aboriginal Education is a high priority at Lakehead University, and in the Faculty of Education, evidenced by the very creation of the Department of Aboriginal Education, the inclusion of five Aboriginal scholars, and a significant research agenda among Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal faculty members. There is no other such department in any publicly funded university in Canada.
With a critical mass of Aboriginal faculty on board with diverse scholarly expertise in Aboriginal Education, we are able to contribute to topics of interest to Aboriginal people in graduate education. We encourage all prospective Aboriginal students to apply.
Feel free to examine our Aboriginal programs, our very fine faculty and staff profiles, and information about our Advisory Council. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or would like further information.
